Because the school’s science expo is already on its third week of implementation, students are now busy working on their respective projects. My advisees, more specifically, are working already on their models.

Up to now, everything seems to be going smoothly except for one crucial factor – the materials. A lot of my advisees are working on plastic models. And the basic problem with plastic is availability. I mean, you can’t simply go to the store and hope to find the one with the right thickness, shape, transparency, and mold all the time, right?. Not to mention, even the type of plastic has to be precise, like if the model is going to be using Polyethylene Bags or the more specific Cellophane Bags, for example. It’s a big hindrance and it’s causing the students’ a considerable delay in the completion of their models.

Fortunately, there are resources online that provide a wide range of plastic materials. The down side, however, is shipping or delivery cost. But at least, they can be sure to find the specific kind of plastic that they need from there. All they’d need is a working computer, an internet connection and they’re set. No need to compromise their projects because of inferior alternatives to plastic.
