a BMW dream

Aside from the price of the parts, the next problem with restoring cars is the availability of its components. You see, there are brands of cars whose parts are more readily available than others just like BMWs. A collector, for example, will have an easier time looking for BMW Tail Lights than Nissan tail lights. A detailer will find a BMW front grill faster than a Toyota front grill. This is why a lot of car buyers prefer Bimmers than other models.

Unfortunately for us, what we have is a series 89 Mitubushi Lancer. We don’t have the luxury of ordering from MyHotBimmer for parts and accessories unlike BMW owners. We have to scour different places just to find parts like front grills or tail lights. That’s why I promised andrea that the next car we’re going to have is gonna be a BMW. Of course, I deliberately didn’t mention when I’d fulfill that promise. Haha!

a one-year project

Andrea has been immersing herself on a project. She decided to make Mateo’s first year album lay-out. She’s been cramming it since the little boy is past his first year already. Lately, I’d often find her engrossed on her laptop and would sometimes call my attention to ask my opinion on what she’s done so far. She’s hoping to finish the 40-page lay-out before April and then she’ll continue on our long overdue wedding album lay-out. I guess she can’t be disturbed for the next few weeks.

megatransporters

Just the other day, andrea and I were watching the Megastructures program on National Geographic. We couldn’t help but marvel at the size and complexity of the monuments that we saw.

When we started discussing about how difficult an undertaking it is to build such incredible structures, one of the main questions that always came up was how each component was transported. Because most of the time, the program always just seems to breeze through that particular portion of the story, I couldn’t help but search for the answers myself. I know it sounds geeky but that’s what I did this morning.

As it turned out, there are several freight companies that specialize in oversized shipments - shipments just like the ones used in the program. They provide over the road trucking, ocean freight and air cargo transport. One company, which stands out from the rest, LGI Inc., specializes in heavy haul transport. These are the people responsible for bringing all the necessary giant components to the site of the giant structures.

And when I was looking at the pictures of the transporters as well as their cargoes, I couldn’t help but be amazed. They are as incredible as the shipments they carry. They’re megatransporters for megastructures.

a weekend visit

For several weekends already, Andrea and I decided not to travel far to visit our parents. We have several reasons for doing so. One, our gasoline expense is one of the things that we’ve identified to be negotiable. Since the summer is approaching, which means less pay for teachers, we know that we’re going to have to make adjustments with our budget if we’d like to survive the next two months. We could cut down big time if we don’t visit our parents. Two, we would cut down on our beloved red car’s wear-and-tear if we avoid using it for long drives. Not to mention that we would avoid any possible accidents on the road. Three, we wanted to enjoy our weekends at home. We love spending quality time at home especially now that Mateo is very active already.

That’s why it’s no surprise that Andrea’s parents decided to visit us this long weekend. Not seeing and spending time with their grandson for more than two weeks is a definite no for them so they will be the ones doing the long travel this time. It’s great that they will be bringing food with them too. I guess we will be freeloaders in our own house too! :)

smoothening out the details

We’ve been doing blogs for leisure as well as for business purposes for over a year now. And because it’s been great, andrea and i are considering getting a new web hosting for another set of blogs and possibly a small business.

You see, for some time now, we’ve been talking about putting up an online gig that more or less resembles blogging, but is actually a cross between ebay and the usual online stores. Right now, we’re still in the process of smoothening out the technical stuff, the legal hindrances and all the other details. This is why andrea and I are searching for companies that provide small business web hosting.

So far, when it comes to hosting plans, Concentric Business Solutions is the best choice we’ve see. In terms of features and resource allocation, it beats most hosting companies. As soon as we fix all the other details, we’re trying out their hosting plans so we could push through with our online ideas.
