This morning, andrea and i decided to spend some quality time together so we agreed to go out on a date this afternoon - just the two of us. Little did we know that mateo had a plan of his own.

You see, when we agreed to go out, our original plan was to leave as soon as mateo goes to bed. But as luck would have it, he didn’t just refuse to comply with his usual sleeping schedule, but he also took shorter naps instead of the usual 2-hour ones. Perhaps he’s sensing that we’re about to leave and that’s he’s way of saying I’m coming with you, commented andrea. I agreed. So we took the little babsy with us instead.

The romantic date turned into a family outing. The three of us bought some shades, some blank DVDs and a few other things. Afterwards, we ate some ice cream and we took a walk around the department store pausing every once and a while to take a look at some items. We took mateo for a ride at an amusement store. Then, we looked at some art works on display at the activity area. We were having so much fun that we didn’t even notice how long we’ve been going around already. It was not until mateo complained and started asking for milk that we decided to call it a day and head home.

We were home before 8 pm. I was tired and hungry. My feet were a bit sore but nothing could dampen my spirit. And although I admit that I was disappointed at first when I found out that we were canceling our date, it turned out to be one memorable outing.

Last night, andrea and I were talking about giving the house a little makeover. I told her the house needs it as much as I do. She agreed.

So when we got to the details, we wondered which part of the house would make the biggest impact when altered. I pointed at the curtains. I knew that since the house had lots of windows and the living room itself is flanked by 2 large glass sliding doors, changing the curtains would provide a significant change in the house’s ambiance. I told her that we could give the house a wooden feel by adorning the windows and doors with wood blinds - something that andrea and I always wanted our own home to have even before we got married.

When she heard my idea, she instantly became ecstatic. I, on the other hand, slept thinking about which wood blinds to use. I don’t know about other babies, but mateo has been demonstrating a different kind of attention to detail lately. He’s been taking his time observing things, actions, and any kind of activity that catches his fancy.

In fact, just the other day, he took a bunch of keys from his mom and started experimenting on the gate’s padlock. Sounds ordinary, right? Well, it should be except we never once taught him how to use the keys nor even where he’s suppose to use it. He just simply learned by watching us.

Lately, that’s what he’s been doing - watching and imitating everything he sees. He’s been rushing to the phone to pick up whenever it rings. He’s been getting the remote and pointing it at the TV. He’s even been pushing the buttons on our laptops whenever he could reach them, which usually pisses andrea off because mateo seems to have memorized the location of the power button on her laptop. He’s been doing all sorts of new tricks that annoys us as much as impress us.

Genius? I don’t know. Rascal, sometimes. Adorable, definitely! That’s my little babsy!
