windshield repair

For the longest time, Andrea and I have been talking about giving the red car her much-needed make-over. Just this weekend, I gave her a wash and I noticed some cracks in the windshield. Although nothing as big to need immediate repair, our red car would look so much better without those cracks. So I guess another thing we have to check out are windshield repair or auto glass replacements. There are St. Paul auto glass replacements like Rapid Glass. What’s great with them is they use Original Equipment Manufacturer parts and their installers are certified to ensure that auto glass repairs or replacements at least meet the strictest auto glass industry standards. I can’t wait to give the red car a new set of windshield. We’ll surely be riding clearly once that happens.

what teachers do

When you think you’ve tried everything, what else do you do?

This was my problem with some of my students in High School. They’ve been getting into a lot of trouble this school year that’s why I’m running out of ideas on how to help them stay away from problems. I’ve tried talking to them seriously, heart to heart, one on one, or whatever else you’d like to call it. I’ve also tried military discipline where punishments are supposed to serve as motivation. I’ve even tried being laid back with them appealing mostly to their conscience rather than punishing them so that they’d be be guilty enough not to repeat the things they did. But none of those methods worked. Even one on one talks with the principal and the guidance counselor did not seem to cover it. So what were we supposed to do?

When it seems that the only way left is to let them go, would you do it? We did. Even at the risk of looking like monsters in the eyes of these students we did. Even if it meant being hated by them, for as long as they’d benefit from it in the end, we did. Because when it comes down to it, that’s what teachers do. They’re supposed to teach, not be loved. And if it so happens that the cost for learning our lessons is being hated, then so be it.

After all, just like what we heard from a certain mentor before, not everyone who shits on you is an enemy the same way that not everyone who picks you up from shit is a friend.

presentations with power

In school, I give my classes a lot of powerpoint presentations. Since I teach different science subjects, this method is one of the most effective way of getting a point across. Students can get mesmerized with pictures showing parasitism or videos of different animal behavior rather than simply talking about it in class. That’s why I’m a constant borrower of the school’s projector. It’s the best teacher aid for me. I only hope we won’t have to replace the projector bulb soon with the enormous amount of time the projector is used not just by me but by other teachers as well. In any case, PresentationMart.com has everything about projectors and presentation products. They also strive to deliver low pricing and excellent customer support. So I guess I need not worry about my future presentations.

parting

One of the hardest things for a teacher to do is to let go of his or her students - whether it be because they’re moving on to the next higher level or because they’re moving on to another school.

I guess the main reason why it does hurt is because it feels like losing a part of your self whenever it happens. I mean, no matter how much we distance ourselves from our students, we can’t help but take them in as our own children. Yes, as our own, regardless of how stubborn or hard-headed they may be. And being semi-parents, we can’t help but feel responsible for everything that they do or experience.

We can’t help but feel angry when they get hurt, or feel scared when they’re threatened. We feel protective when they’re vulnerable, or worried when they’re confused. We can’t help but feel proud of their accomplishments, or feel guilty for their shortcomings. We can’t refrain from feeling all these things because no matter how much we try, we always end up getting attached to them (even if they don’t know it).

And it doesn’t end there. Just when you think the act of letting go is hard enough, we still have to put up a straight face for everyone who was left so that they would understand our intentions that come with the parting better than the suffering that we feel. We have to pretend to be strong and adamant so that the others can continue to be forged and find it easier to let go when it is their time to do so. That’s our burden.

That’s all we can do. That and hope that someday they’d understand… that one day they’ll figure out… that it was all for them - the sacrifice, the hurting, the parting of ways. After all, they’ll only learn to how to fly when they venture away from the nest.

bathroom renovation

The house we’re renting now is not a new house. Although it was well-maintained by the owner, some parts of it are showing signs of wear-and-tear, especially the faucets, sinks, and bathrooms. When we we’re still looking for a house to rent, one of the things that Andrea was so particular with is the bathroom. She makes sure that the bathroom looks nice. Well, she loved the two bathrooms of our current house until she decided that she wanted to renovate it. She’s been talking about which color to use and saw a talavera tile she’d like to put in. Latin Accents would be a haven for somebody like her right now. They provide beautiful, unique, and elegant tile for floors, walls, pools, in vibrant colors and patterns. Andrea has always liked interesting bathrooms and I’m sure she’s going to love the different designs Latin Accents has to offer.
